Achieving AM Product Quality From MBD Through GD&T

When utilizing AM for production, product quality is a critical concern. The accuracy and repeatability of AM are often acceptable but not as accurate or precise as mature production processes. The growth of Model-Based Definition (MBD), while very helpful in defining the authority data, does not always improve manufacturing control. Coupling MBD with Minimum Dimensioned Drawings (MDD) leaves much room for potential error. Getting an end product that meets both quality and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) expectations from the first part through full production runs can be very difficult to ensure.
