Transformational Controls Methodology for Optimization of Aerospace / Defense Sanding Ops

Until recently there has been a wide technological and economic disparity between the manual and automated means for surface abrading/sanding aero-structure. This presentation and paper will describe a transformational technology that provides a solution for lower cost material removal in preparation for coating, paint, or other material application. The described technology will illustrate the optimized solution for lowering the cost of manual operations while reducing the cost of capital investment to automate the abrading/sanding process.
Also presented will be examples of the described technology’s extensibility to other applications beyond airplane structure, including solid rocket casing preparation; and composites preparation for Low Observable (LO) Material application.
