Mike Froning currently serves as Technical Expert for the Product Support Engineering Division of the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center. Mr. Froning has 29 years of industry experience working for General Motors and Delphi Automotive serving in multiple senior positions including: Manager of Product and Manufacturing Engineering, Chief Metallurgist, Manager of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, and Manufacturing Operations Manager. During his industry career, Mike was involved in plant start-ups, managed large engineering and manufacturing organizations, led multiple new product and process developments, successfully transitioned new technologies from laboratory to plant floor, and managed lean manufacturing implementations.
Mike joined the Propulsion Acquisition Division at Wright-Patterson AFB in 2009 and spent six years as a Manufacturing Systems Engineer working with turbine engine manufacturers and their sub-tier suppliers on solving manufacturing and quality issues. He also successfully initiated and led multiple SBIR and RIF projects. As Technical Expert in the Sustainment Technology Transition Branch, Mr. Froning is currently involved in multiple new technology initiatives including laser removal of paints and coatings, additive manufacturing, and cold spray repair.
Mr. Froning holds three engineering degrees and is a Licensed Professional Engineer. He received a BS in Mechanical Engineering and an MS in Materials Engineering from the University of Dayton. He received the Graduate Degree of Engineer from the University of Florida for metallurgy and corrosion. He is a Six Sigma Black Belt, has numerous technical publications, and three U.S. patents.
