Conference Abstract: Additive Manufacturing (AM) is increasingly used to create complex components that must withstand severe environments. Industries including aerospace and energy production require advanced materials operating at elevated temperatures to improve efficiency and sustainability. Oxide Dispersion Strengthening (ODS) is a strategy, when coupled with 3D metal printing, forms unique microstructures and enhances the mechanical properties of nickel, cobalt, and iron alloys. A key factor is the fine oxide dispersion within the post-processed part. Potential methods of forming the oxide particulates include mixing/milling and reactive synthesis, in powder manufacture, printing and post-processing. The processes are evaluated and viability for large scale production discussed.
