New Applications for Tooling and Casting Repair Utilizing DED Hybrid Technology

Demand for new repair applications continues to grow, driven by a push for sustainability, logistical needs, movement toward green manufacturing, vertical integration, and Industry 4.0. The expanding utilization of Hybrid DED technology for repair continues to create new repair opportunities in the tooling space as well as with traditionally difficult materials including cast Iron forms. This presentation will review the requirements of working with these different materials, their process development, and the resolution of complex challenges. Challenges include damage identification, material characterization, and additive process thermal management. We will highlight metallurgic results, the use of unique technical capabilities, and will provide a forward-looking assessment of what the future may hold.
