Metal based additive processes have been leveraged to manufacture medical devices for nearly 25 years. Early adoption of Metal AM required the use of conventional testing and evaluation methods that were designed for other manufacturing processes like casting, forging, and machining. The use of these historical testing methods is non-ideal for verification of additive manufactured medical devices; the tests are expensive and do a poor job of representing the AM Products.
This presentation will provide a new framework for verifying the quality of metal AM products utilizing new, better test methods designed specifically for the AM process. A comparison of old test methods will be provided to demonstrate how we can achieve better assurance of part quality while also lowering the cost of verification.
