Dr. Matt Kelly is an additive manufacturing (AM) technologist for Booz Allen Hamilton on contract with US ARMY DEVCOM Ground Vehicle Systems Center (GVSC). Dr. Kelly is the Technical Lead for US Army GVSCs Jointless Hull program that leverages additive friction stir deposition (AFSD) to produce vehicle scale parts. Dr. Kelly is also the Technical Lead for multiple metal AM projects with Auburn University’s National Center for Additive Manufacturing Excellence (NCAME). His professional interests include solid state processing, topology optimization, implicit modeling, finite element modeling, and manufacturing. Dr. Kelly has participated on, and lead multiple projects leveraging various AM technologies including additive friction stir deposition, powder bed fusion, directed energy deposition, and sheet lamination. Dr. Kelly currently serves as the Emerging Professional Chair for SMEs Additive Manufacturing Technical Community, and additionally serves as a member of SMEs Technical Community Committee (TCC). Dr. Kelly holds his Bachelors, Masters, and PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame. In 2016, Dr. Kelly was awarded Advanced Manufacturing Media’s 30 under 30, for those who have the potential to lead the manufacturing industry into the future.
