Paul received his B.S. in Chemistry at the University of Chicago and his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry at the University of California Berkeley. Paul then did postdoctoral work at the Max Planck Institut for Quantenoptik in Garching, Germany and at the University of Pennsylvania, working in the area of organic photochemistry and photophysics. Paul joined Henkel as a research scientist with a focus on the development of UV/EB resins. Paul then joined the Packaging Division of Valspar, where he was responsible for development of UV and EB coatings for paper and paperboard and also Oxygen barrier technology for plastic packaging. Paul then joined BASF, where he was responsible for Global UV/EB resin development for Printing and Packaging applications and materials and formulations development for UV applications in 3D printing. Paul is currently self-employed as a consultant in UV technology and manufacturing, as well as the design and development of 3D printing technology for medical, industrial, and electronics applications.
