Louisiana State University
Prof. Les Butler is a chemistry professor at Louisiana State University with an extensive history of advanced instrumentation design and construction. Most recently, his team built a Talbot-Lau interferometer addition for the Oak Ridge National Lab, High-Flux Isotope Reactor, CG-1D beamline. The first images of additive manufactured objects were collected in April, 2022. Next, he is partnering with Drs. Boris Khaykovich (MIT), Jacob LaManna (NIST), Joyoni Dey (LSU Medical Physics), and Markus Bleuel (Adelphi Tech) to develop X-ray interferometry for integration with the MIT nuclear reactor neutron imaging beamline. In collaboration with Dr. Markus Bleuel, he is constructing a neutron imaging system at the LSU Pennington Biomedical Research Center small business incubator space. He also led the technical evaluation of the new X-ray tomography system which is installed in the LSU Shared Instrumentation Facility.
