Ph.D. Candidate
The University of Toledo
Saeedeh Vanaei is a PhD candidate in Mechanical engineering at the University of Toledo with a background in materials science and engineering. During her master’s studies at Arts et Métiers Institute of Technology in France, she studied additive manufacturing of polymers. Her focus was on the microstructure evolution and mechanical behavior of polymers produced by FDM/FFF method. Her research has been published in 5 peer-reviewed journals.
In her PhD studies, she works on additive manufacturing of Shape memory alloys (SMAs) for biomedical applications. Her focus is on the design and characterization of NiTi self-expanding stents for femoropopliteal artery. She designs parts to improve hemodynamics and biomechanics of stents used in femoropopliteal artery. Benefiting from design freedom in additive manufacturing, she investigates the design and manufacturing of patient specific stents for pediatric surgeries. She studies process optimization of laser powder bed fusion technique and the effect of post processing on properties and functionality of the manufactured parts. Her research has so far published in 4 peer-reviewed journals.
