Bill Ryan joined ATF in 2009 as a firearms and explosives attorney in the Office of Chief Counsel. Serving in the National Services Center in Martinsburg, WV, he focused on all legal issues arising under the National Firearms Act, Gun Control Act and Arms Export Control Act and has substantial experience with firearms tracing issues, firearms and explosives licensing, and firearms and explosives importation. He is currently the Chief of the Firearms and Ammunition Technology Division where he supervises Firearms Enforcement Officers across the country, assisting in the classification of firearms and ammunition in support of law enforcement efforts to improve public safety. Prior to his time at ATF, he served in United States Marine Corps as Judge Advocate, and deployed to Fallujah, Iraq as a Battalion Judge Advocate with 1st Battalion, 1st Marines. He is currently a Lieutenant Colonel in the Marine Corps Reserve. Bill earned his bachelor’s degree from Binghamton University (NY) and his law degree from Temple University, Philadelphia, Pa.
