Postdoctoral Scholar
The Ohio State University
Luis H. Olivas-Alanis received the Ph.D. degree in Engineering Science from Tecnologico de Monterrey in 2023. He is a Biomedical Engineer (2017) and earned a Master of Science degree in Manufacturing Systems (2019), both from Tecnologico de Monterrey. Currently, he is a Postdoctoral Scholar at The Ohio State University, leading the Point-Of-Care Manufacturing projects and contributing to the OMEGA ARPA-H project in collaboration with Case Western Reserve University. He is also a member of the HAMMER ERC (NSF). His research is focused on Virtual Surgical Planning (VSP) which considers the design, validation, manufacturing, and verification of load-bearing personalized medical devices. Besides, he is greatly interested in the application of novel metals and cellular materials for the development of stiffness-matched implants. He has strong experience in CT image segmentation, computer-aided design of costumed implants, and static structural analysis employing computational models such as Finite Element Analysis. He works with Powder-Bed Fusion Additive Manufacturing of novel metallic alloys, such as Nickel-Titanium alloys, post-processing stages (chemical polishing, coating) for medical device production, and morphological, thermal, and mechanical characterization.
