Vice President of Software and Co-founder
Rick Chin is a co-founder and Vice President of Software Development at Desktop Metal, a company committed to accelerating the transformation of manufacturing with end-to-end metal 3D printing solutions. Rick brings to this position nearly 30 years of experience in software development, product management, innovation and entrepreneurship. Leading a growing team of software engineers experienced in web-based platforms, 3D imaging and UX design, Rick is responsible for the development of a robust, effortless software platform for Desktop Metal’s 3D printing systems.
Prior to co-founding Desktop Metal in 2015, Rick served as Director of Product Innovation at DS SolidWorks, where he led the team focused on the development and implementation of an Augmented Reality (AR) app for product design. Additionally, he helped launch the SolidWorks SustainabilityXpress product, enabling engineers to improve the environmental impact of their designs. Prior, Rick founded Xpress3D, which provided an online marketplace of vendors who provide rapid prototyping services to engineers. Xpress3D was later acquired by Stratasys. Previously, Chin held product management and engineering roles at PTC, Pratt & Whitney and McDonnell Douglas. Rick earned his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology. He currently holds five U.S. patents for CAD modeling and related features.
